For The Love Of God - HAVE SOME F***ING SELF PRIDE!

Today we attended Vapnartak, which was a little quieter I thought than last year, but was as usual a nice show for catching up with friends.

But... Some of those attending need to take a reality check and think long and hard about setting foot in anywhere public.

I have never, I repeat, NEVER seen so many grossly overweight, scruffy and frankly unhygienic individuals at a wargames convention. Seriously...

At one point, I and my accomplice in all things gaming were nearly floored by the collective smell of one group. It really was offensive.

Now, you may moan about not discriminating against folks, but show organisers, please - If you get someone at your doors who clearly and plainly just stinks, don't admit them.

Perhaps instead of free figures or dice, wargames companies could supply complimentary mini bars of soap in the show carrier bags?

Fair warning to show organisers - If I attend a show, and cannot quietly enjoy my day without damage to my olfactory senses I will be demanding a refund and leaving your show. Trust me, as my average convention spend is £500 - £1000m some of your trader will notice a drop in sales.

And to those of you who apparently have no self pride - GET A BLOODY WASH, AND A CHANGE OF CLOTHES BEFORE GOING INTO AN ENCLOSED SPACE WHERE YOU WILL BE MINGLING WITH OTHERS.

  2. Only good thing about the death of the bring and buy is the fact you don't have to get close to these worms. New 'tabletop' sales suffer quite a bit......never understood it unless you've finished a hard days work and have been unable to get home for a shower etc.....for shows there is NO excuse.

  3. I was glad to be full of cold on Sunday so didn't suffer from other people's soaplessness!

  4. Couldn't agree more and have covered this on my own blog Glorious Little Soldiers more than once. It happens at all shows I'm afraid to a greater or lesser extent. There are numbers of our bretheren who think- or don't think that looking like an unwashed refugee from a bad 1970s metal band is "cool" (or more likely they just don't give a s@@t. Witness the number of nasty T-shirts and builders bum you get at some shows and that is from the participants let alone the punters!

  5. Agreed, although to be fair until August 2016 my hair was long and I do have a penchant for 70s heavy rock T-shirts :) BUT, and this is the point, I washed my hair and bathed EVERY DAY. Some of those at Vapnartak could not have washed for days. The sheer number of dishevelled and frankly disgusting individuals was noticeable beyond the 'norm'. I was heard to state clearly that it's a sad day when model railway types (and yes I am one of those too) could deride wargamers. ;) It does nothing for the image of the hobby to have to witness such outright disregard for hygiene. I can only imagine what their homes must be like...
