The Living City Project Goes Live

As I may have mentioned, I have been mooting the idea of a 'living' wargames table, centred around a fictional US city.

The idea is to amass a large number of buildings to cover from the turn of the century, up to the present day, and then use them for narrative games, which delve deeply into the stories, history, cartoons and movies in which the American streets feature.

Want prohibition era gangsters, shooting it out with police - No problem.

Pesky kids and their dog foiling a fake spook's plans to get Mr Geldhammer to sell his apartment block - Easy.

Eldritch horrors summoned by cultists in the comic store - OK.

80s teenagers think that the old German guy who runs that war-game store looks like a former dictator - It can be done.

Zombies - Hell, yeah!

Want to open a paranormal extermination franchise? - You know who to call.

Patrolling the streets with your partner in the 60s, 70s or 80s - Of course.

Deep Ones coming up from the sewers to snatch hookers for foul breeding programs, only to meet a tooled up group of pimps intent on protecting their investment - OK, it's far fetched, but why not?

And so it goes on, and I'm certain you can see the attraction of this concept.

Tonight, I've ordered £310 worth of down town type buildings from T.T Combat and Warbases and I'll be ordering the excellent 'Roaring Twenties' gaming mat by Cigar Box Battles in the morning.

Then the fun begins as the buildings are constructed, painted and then furnished.

I think that to be perfectly honest, this will overtake the idea of building massive single-era armies and may even result in me doing more painting for my own use, which can only be a good thing.

I will of course be posting regular updates here, which I'm hoping will be a fun read as the city grows and the possibilities unfold.
