Boy, Have I Been Busy Today...

Well, I purchased the 28mm Mongol range yesterday and spent today building a website ahead of the moulds arriving on New Years Eve. Wargames Elite  Now, back to the fine wine and pies!

More From Mongolia

Here are some pics courtesy of Mr Barry Lees, of the new Satanic Panic M28mm Mongols range, with brush work by Shaun Watson of Red Zed:

HARK! I hear the sound of 40,000 hooves... I hear the lamentations of the enemy's women... THE MONGOLS APPROACH FROM THE EAST!

It is with distinct pleasure, that I can now announce that the first historical range from Satanic Panic Miniatures will be Mongols, sculpted by Martin Buck. Originally these were commissioned by The Emperor’s Little Soldiers but saw very little exposure commercially. I wanted a Mongol army myself and thus when I could not get hold of the models, I decided to make my Christmas present to myself the purchase of the range, after a brief and very amicable exchange of emails with Barry Lee. Mongols are an enduring classic and what’s more, they are also mirrored in fantasy literature, thus providing some very suitable human opponents for the Satanic Panic Hobgoblins and Great Gnolls, on the Steppes to the east of the Dark Tower, the dread abode of the Great Wizard. For my part, I will be using mine as true Mongols for the Swordpoint rules. The range has 31 models with several being split torso for varied posing. There are light and heavy riders as well as unarmored and armoured ponies which

Coming To Terms With The Present, Ghosts Of Christmas Past & The Art Of 'The Mooch'

Sorry for the lack of posts, but it's been  trying time in the wake of the passing of the man whose son I was. I've really had to get my head straight and fight down some really dificult emotions and come to terms with the fact that I have no sense of loss The funeral was exceedingly 'low rent' for a man whose father was on the design team of the English Electric Lightning, and I felt that 'simple' should not mean that it was more low key than that of Ebenezer Scrooge in 'A Christmas Carol'. 14 people gathered at the crematorium including two neighbours, the parents of my brother's girlfriend (of whom my parents 'had opinions') and two estranged cousins fresh from the woodwork with their spouses. My sister did not attend and to be honest it was a toss of the coin for me, truth be told The man himself arrived in a transit van with class sides in a coffin which looked like it had come from IKEA, was wheeled in and placed on the bier. 3 songs

Another Working Year Ends...

Studio cleaned... Let the festivities begin and may January the 4th take a good long while to come around. Gingerbread lattes, Living North and Yorkshire life Christmas issues and a pile of Runequest books await. Carpaccio of beef and carpaccio of octopus in the fridge, plenty of wine and prosecco on hand. I pardon my enemies. Let the slaves run free from the pits (I'll get more in the new year) A year when I lost someone I loved, and believe me, that dog is sorely missed. May absent friends find their way home and may we have many hotly contested games in our autumn years. I'll win anyway, but it'll be fun ;)

Serendipity is a strange thing, and rears it's head quite a lot in my hobby. For instance, I am always looking for interesting bargains and they have a back of being those 'perfect' items for my tastes or something I have always dreamed of getting my hands on. However, the most interesting cases are when it also involves friends in a kind of blind synchronicity. This was the case this weekend, when I was mulling over something a little different, having completed my 28mm NMA on Saturday and the idea of something Medieval or Ancient popped into my head. I recalled that I'd seen a truly enormous 15mm Medieval Moslem army which was capable of representing about half a dozen different lists as well as just being a bloody enormous mob in it's own right. It ticked the boxes for me when making an unplanned purchase: 1. 1058 pieces 2. Very neatly painted in a traditional toy soldier style 3. Attractively priced But of course, the rub was that I'd need an opponent. Now y

Well, after a mammoth 9 hour push on basing the last third of the 'combatant' elements of my 28mm New Model army, it's ready for the table pretty much finished. I still have to add some spiky tufts to most of the bases, and I have the baggage train, a robinet and 6 or so staff groups to get finished before it's fully completed. The artillery needs tha gabions dropping into place, too, but I am really happy with it. Models are all metal with the exception of 24 horses, and are from Warlord, Essex, Perry and a a handful of Foundry.
