English Civil PHWOOOAAAR!
I decided on a whim - literally - that whilst I am heading towards 15mm in a big way (no ironic oxymoron intended) my ECW has to be done in 28mm. I know, I know, dog to vomit and all that jazz, but if I am going to indulge myself in this hobby, I'm going to do so in a way which brings back memories for me.
Now, ECW is an odd one, because I owned 15mm and 28mm at the same time, in my youth, and both had their drw for me, but, I always loved the Once Upon A Time In The West Country skirmish rules by Pete Berry, which we played a lot, with the then newly-released Wargames Foundry ECW figures which could actually be ordered through local Games Workshop stores for a while, and being blooming and vibrant young reenactors too, we paionted miniature versions of ourselves when we built up armies.
So, 28mm has always had the edge in terms of specatacle, but trust me when I say that a good looking 15mm ECW army made up of Mike's Models, Gallia and Jacobite Miniatures, is a wonderful thing to behold, dear reader.
Anyway, I was able to purchase the ECW collection of Neil Tew, which you may have seen both at Salute and in the Warlord Games 'To Kill A King' supplement for Black Powder.
As I type, it's making it's way to me by wagon, from Cheshire. Here's why I am rather excited:
It's not a massive collection at around 1200 pieces, but it meets my needs admirably. I have also concluded a deal for another 300+ pieces to boost it a little, with extra horse, dragoons artillery and a couple more infantry units, from another seller, so with that I'll actually have more than enough, with the added bonus of having plenty of character figures in the mix, for use in OUATITWC, so it's a sensible buy and a win/win situation.
It also means that I can solidly justify holding on to my Grand Manner buildings which would have seen little use, had I gone over totally to 15mm, which would be a shame as they are gorgeous.
I hope you enjoyed seeing the pics of this wonderful collection and the magificence which is the 48 man ECW regiment...
