Holiday Edition

Well, I am on a 3 week break, and so I've thrown myself into getting another of my 15mm sci-fi forces completed.

I completed the vehicles for the Unified Systems Military Command company a couple of weeks ago, so now I am working through the 78 infantry who will crew them.

The figures are Ground Zero Games, Pan African Union models which I like as they have that 'Striker/Traveller' mid-tech infantry look, which is the aesthetic I feel most at home with, and always will.

As you will recall, I am trying to recapture the look and feel f the stuff I had and wished I had in the early to mid-80s, as well as the paint work.

These are not showcase armies, but reimaginings of childhood stylings and armies, and if you like them, great. If you don't - great, knock yourself out. Not literally of course becaus ethat upsets the darlings who see every comment as a cause, not remembering that they are in no way obliged to look in here at all.

But I digress...

I have put in around 11 hours over three days, and as of )8'15 this morning, 46 of the 78 USMC infantry are completed, and 144 Federated Systems 'hard suits' have been varnished - having arrived from the painter on Friday - and popped onto hex bases.

The hardsuits are GZG UNSC with the jump pack upgrades fitted, and are redolent of the Traveller Imperial Marines, in design and colour.

If I get the USMC finished that will just leave the Air Cavalry Squadron to do, which is 19-21 VTOLs and around 90 power armoured infantry.

I've been busy on planning a few more historical projects and, I've ordered (and received just today) a second Roman legion of 264  and 264 Naked Gallic Fanatics, which are off to my painter this week, giving me around 700 Celtic infantry, 36 cavalry and 27 chariots against 648 Roman infantry, 32 cavalry and 4 bolt throwers.

This morning, I ordered 700 28mm Zulus and the first 100 or so British infantry, after I had a flashback to 1984 yesterday, recalling how I wprked 24 hours solid that Summer to paint and base a complete 15mm British Zulu Wars army, to take to the wrgames club the following evening. I actually went temporarily blind in the process, and my Mother who, was not known for being pro-wargaming, to her credit sat up all night with me, until I finished it at 6AM on the following morning, bathing my eyes and forcing me to stop, and sit in the dark for a while when the old sight went.

Such was the memory that I decided it was time to revisit the old friend of a period and do some Colonial wargaming. Again, I don't really care what you think about the period, it's my money, my toys and my decision, and you will have to deal with any emotional upset this causes you.

I am also sorting through around 380 slotta based Chaos Dwarves at present to make a 300 or so piece army. I never acquired the Tenderiser or Whirlwind as I hated them, but I may have to indulge myself for the sake of completion. I also realised that I didn't buy the Chaos Dwarf handler and Chaos Hounds - Schoolboy error. So I better get one sorted somehow.

The surplus will be sold on to a new home, later in the week.

Well, that's it for the present. I am off to enjoy the remaining 20 days of freedom...
