I Love It When A Plan Comes Together...
Hi ho,
Well, you will recall that I recently cracked on and painted a load of 15mm sci-fi , for a planned spaceport battle, based on my memories of games 45 years ago, using the Laserburn rules?
Well, nice though those GZG and Brigade models were, they were not quite hitting the spot. The 13 year-old me, was into a more Space Opera vibe back then, and Laserburn did hit the spot.
So, I decided to go back to the drawing board and use the original Laserburn models again, which are of course available in all their greatness, from Alternative Armies.
I wanted spectacle at the man-to-man level, with less emphasis on AFVs. After all, Laserburn was the game which replaced the main battle tank with the fearsome Dreadnought armoured suit, well before that upstart 40K was a pound sign in Games Workshop's red and glowing eye.
I planned for a BIG game, wherein a spaceport on on Entebbe II, a planet at the fringes of human Imperial space, is overrun by those fanatical and vile Red Redemptionists, the control complex being occupied, thus preventing the safe ingress and egress of space vessels.
The local law enforcement personnel have been forced back into their blockhouse and are surrounded by Redemptionist zealots.
To make things worse the Imperial garrison, comprising a detachment of power armoured Imperial Guards, upon realising that a Froog dignitary who was awaiting a shuttle to a Frook vessel, the F.E.V 'G'rinbak' escort was at risk, spirited the official away into the military compound adjacent to the starport.
They are currently hunkered down, expecting the Redemptionists to strike out in the hope of causing a diplomatic incident between the Froog and Imperial humanity.
Unfortunately, the Froog tactical commander on the F.E.V 'G'rinbak', being unable to communicate with the starport, assumes that the 'Dryskins' have taken their dignitary hostage and, at the very same time that Imperial forces comprising 2 entire Assault Groups, 2 Dreadnought platoons, 2 power armoured platoons and two entire detachments of the elite Black Guards Imperial have dropped onto the spaceport, intends to teleport over 100 heavily tooled-up Froog marines into the same battle space. What could possibly go awry?
And so, this means that I am looking at having to paint around 600 Laserburn figures. What could go wrong?
Instinct tells me to paint the Imperial forces in red or white armour, but the 'official' colour scheme is sand, and so I'm mulling over whether I want to (as I really ought) go with a 'canon' colour scheme.
I think I will, just because you never see Laserburn figures painted in the 'official' colours.
I'll be putting out posts as I go along and hope you'll follow me on this adventure.
Nowm I just have to patiently await delivery of what will be a massive shipment of metal. I'm getting rather excited at the thought of it!
