In Search Of Girl On A Planet

-

If anyone knows where this is, I'd like to buy it back.

It's called 'Girl On A Planet' and was one of three John Blanche paintings I had to sell for a song a few years ago when times were VERY hard

Tales From The Underbelly Part 1: Where It All Began To Fall Apart

-
In 1985, my parents had moved to a semi rural area of Sheffield, and a large bungalow, taking with them an old neighbour and family friend who was widowed decades previously. It was a little odd, but look, I had a massive bedroom extension, newly built onto the new family manse, which I only had to share with my brother for a short while... It was massive to a 16 year old kid, measuring around 35x10 feet, meaning that I could do some serious wargaming. You can see it here, but back then it lacked the paved driveway:  5 Josselin Court Now, this meant that I was moving from the area I'd grown up in, to a wholly alien environment, where it transpired, there was one bus into town every hour, instead of every 5 minutes and the resulting journey was 45-60 minutes as opposed to 12 which, I thought was fucking barbaric on a Mad Max level - where I was living 8 feet from a Victorian cemetery.  Did I mention I have had a massive phobia around death and cemeteries since I was 4? And We're Off! Or, How I Learned, After 45 Years, To Just Do What I Want, And Ignore Everybody & Everything Else

Well, as I type it's the 4th of January 2026 and I am recovering from buying 9 kitchen knives with a £450 price tag. We've all done it I know, nipped into a bistro attached to a cutlery manufacturer and design museum (how niche is that combo?) for a quick coffee and a cake, and walked out with some kitchen weaponry, you've always dreamed of owning? Well, that was the situation on Friday. In my defence, I have already bought and paid for all my gaming stuff - well, 98% of it - for 2026, and paid the painter in full for enough work to apparently keep him fully occupied for 2 years by his own estimation. I say he'll crack it in 18 months, but it does mean that your correspondent has to seriously consider adding anything not already painted, to the collection. Now, I don't know exactly what my painter already has, but  off the cuff ,it's 450 Dark Elves, 5 Dark Elf War Eagles, 220 Chronicle 'Small' Orcs, 10 Ackland Orc Wyvern Riders, 50 Angels and Gargoyles, ...

Counter Cultural Thoughts...

-
OK, before I start, let's get the groundwork laid out.  I was lucky to 'come up' right at the start of the 'breakout' of gaming, beginning as I did in 1981 - It's 45 years ago, but feels still, like just a few months have passed. I am not your typical 'old fart' in cardigan, crimpolene trousers and comb over. At almost 58, I have long hair becuse I can and because that's who I am, I favour bright coloured t shirts, collect leather jackets (if leather offends you - deal with it) and outrageously bright footwwear, accessorising with 'women's' scarves and floral scents because - yes, I can, and because it is counter to the cultural norms for a hetrosexual man of my years. I rub people the wrong way aesthetically... This is nothing new. This is right and proper... I was the eldest child in a very traditional and staid family, which as a child with imaginative overkill syndrome, could make life difficult.   At age 12, in a school of a thousan...
